LIFE LUPI LYNX is a cross-border initiative that brings together six organisations from Portugal and Spain with the aim of contributing to the conservation of the Iberian wolf (Canis lupus) and the Iberian lynx (Lynx pardinus).
The project has its area of intervention comprising two regions south of the Douro River, Beira Interior and Extremadura, where the Iberian lynx is beginning to appear, and the Iberian wolf has an irregular presence. These areas target a bordering zone spanning the entire Beira Interior region, in the districts of Guarda and Castelo Branco (Portugal) and in Spain.
The area where the project is working in Beira Interior covers the districts of Guarda and Castelo Branco, bordered by three important natural areas: the Douro International (to the north), the Serra da Estrela (to the west) and the Serra da Malcata (to the east).
