LIFE LUPI LYNX - Creating the necessary socio-ecological conditions for the Iberian wolf and Iberian lynx in a cross-border area south of the Douro River
LIFE LUPI LYNX is a cross-border initiative that brings together five organisations from Portugal and Spain with the aim of contributing to the conservation of the Iberian wolf (Canis lupus Signatus) and the Iberian lynx (Lynx pardinus).
The project has its area of intervention comprising three regions south of the Douro River, Beira Interior, the Community of Madrid and Castilla-la-Mancha, where the Iberian lynx is beginning to appear, and the Iberian wolf has an irregular presence. These areas target a zone covering the districts of Guarda and Castelo Branco (Portugal) and the provinces of Madrid and Guadalajara (Spain).
The area where the project is working in Beira Interior covers the districts of Guarda and Castelo Branco, bordered by three important natural areas: the Douro International (to the north), the Serra da Estrela (to the west) and the Serra da Malcata (to the east).

The project area covers the provinces of Madrid and of Guadalajara (Castilla-La Mancha), encompassing important natural areas such as the Sierra de Ayllón, the Lozoya River Basin and the Sierra Norte.
