Special edition marking the 25th anniversary of CDPNews magazine

CDPnews – Carnivore Damage Prevention News, established in 2000 by the Large Carnivore Initiative for Europe, celebrates its 25th anniversary with a special edition that highlights its ongoing commitment to disseminating information and sharing experiences centred on the complex challenges of coexistence with large carnivores.

This issue highlights social mediation initiatives in La Rioja, Spain, and collaborative projects in the western United States that demonstrate improvements in bear and wolf management. It also addresses behavioural change for conservation as an emerging discipline and the need to recognise cognitive biases in conflict contexts. It further includes case studies and recent research on livestock guard dogs, the potential of their barking to alert horses to the presence of wolves, and the territoriality of wolves involved in livestock attacks in Germany.

Since the end of 2024, when issue 28 was published – which includes an article on the LIFE Lupi Lynx project – CDPnews has released two further issues: issue 29, which focuses on volunteering initiatives that support livestock farmers in protecting their livestock and promoting coexistence; and issue 30, with more diverse content, presenting a co-creation project for coexistence, analysing changes in wolf protection policies across Europe, highlighting international efforts to prevent damage and showcasing innovative tools such as the Human–Bear Conflict Radar, as well as exploring perspectives on the reintroduction of large carnivores in the United Kingdom and Ireland.

The distribution of CDPnews is supported by the LIFE LUPI LYNX project, which will also produce four issues, including translations into Portuguese and Spanish.
