The LIFE LUPILYNX was recently highlighted at the 17th International Congress of SECEM (Iberian Society for the Conservation and Study of Mammals), which took place in Évora, at the Colégio do Espírito Santo, between 5 and 8 December 2025. This scientific meeting, which takes place every two years, is one of the main Iberian platforms for presenting and discussing advances in mammal research, bringing together specialists, managers, technicians, students and organisations dedicated to wildlife conservation.
A team from the University of Aveiro (CESAM/DBIO) was present at the congress, where its researchers participated with four oral presentations and eleven poster presentations, thereby contributing to the dissemination of recent studies carried out at the Wildlife Unit and reinforcing CESAM's institutional presence on the Iberian mammal research scene. A special mention goes to one of the posters, which focused on presenting the results of the baseline monitoring of ungulates carried out in the project areas between 2024 and early 2025.
The congress featured several thematic sessions, covering areas such as ecology, behaviour, conservation, habitat management, emerging threats and the application of new monitoring methodologies. These sessions allowed updated scientific results to be shared and the exchange of experiences between researchers from different institutions in the Iberian Peninsula and other European countries. In addition to the formal presentations, the event provided moments for debate and reflection on conservation strategies, highlighting the importance of cross-border co-operation and the link between science and management. Taking part in this scientific event served to publicise the project's actions and results that have already been achieved, as well as promoting the exchange of technical knowledge with the scientific community and with those responsible for the conservation of Iberian mammals.
